Frontier International Advances Deepwater RCD Bearing Integration for Third-Party MPD Systems
August 2026 —
Frontier International is advancing the development of its deepwater rotary control device (RCD) bearing technology for integration with third-party managed pressure drilling (MPD) systems, expanding the interoperability of its offshore pressure-control portfolio.
During 2026, Frontier entered into a collaboration agreement with technology partners to develop a deepwater RCD bearing configuration designed to fit an existing MPD joint. The development allows Frontier’s bearing technology to be incorporated into a third-party pressure-control architecture rather than requiring a dedicated proprietary joint configuration.
The project represents an important step in broadening the application of Frontier’s deepwater bearing technology across different offshore MPD equipment platforms. Compatibility with existing drilling-system infrastructure can provide operators and drilling contractors with greater flexibility when configuring pressure-control equipment for deepwater applications.
Following the development work, Frontier is currently preparing for the first deployment of the new bearing configuration in Guyana, working with offshore drilling and technology partners to integrate the bearing into the existing MPD joint.
The planned deployment will extend Frontier’s deepwater bearing program beyond its established equipment configurations and provide an additional application pathway for the technology within third-party offshore MPD systems.
The integration initiative complements Frontier’s growing offshore bearing track record, which includes direct deepwater equipment deliveries as well as rental applications across multiple international markets.
About Frontier International
Frontier International, founded in 2010 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, is an international oilfield services group operating through three core business divisions: Drilling Services, Completion Systems, and Capital Equipment. Through its network of manufacturing, engineering, and operating companies, the Group serves the upstream oil and gas industry across North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, and the CIS.
The Drilling Services division designs, manufactures, and deploys bottom-hole assembly (BHA) tools and technologies, including advanced managed pressure drilling (MPD) systems.
The Completion Systems division provides equipment and services for single, dual, and multistage completions in open-hole and cased-hole applications. Its portfolio includes packers, subsurface safety valves, expandable systems, and related completion technologies.
The Capital Equipment division supplies BHA, MPD, and completion equipment, supported by commissioning, technical assistance, and comprehensive after-sales service.
Frontier International operates through a network of specialized companies, including Frontier Oil Tools and Wolverine Oilfield Technologies.
