Wolverine Oilfield Technologies and Remote Measurement Systems Complete 4¾-in Triple Combo LWD Field Trial
CATOOSA, Oklahoma — September 2020 —
Wolverine Oilfield Technologies and Remote Measurement Systems Limited completed field testing of their proprietary 4¾-in triple-combo logging-while-drilling (LWD) suite at Catoosa, Oklahoma. The trial combined formation evaluation, pressure-while-drilling, and high-speed telemetry technologies in one bottom-hole assembly for directional and horizontal drilling applications.
The bottom-hole assembly included the following components, listed from bottom to top:
- GR — natural gamma ray
- PDD — pressure during drilling
- MFPWR® — multi-frequency propagation wave resistivity
- LNDC — neutron and density measurements
- Neutrino™ ultra-high-speed telemetry
The Neutrino measurement-while-drilling system transmitted the LWD data in real time at 6 bits/s. The transmitted dataset included a 16-sector density image and a three-dimensional ultrasonic caliper.
Primary and backup strings were run in drilling mode to compare repeatability. A triple-combo wireline suite from a major wireline provider was then run as a separate comparison. The source material reports full repeatability and matching LWD and wireline data; this absolute claim should be technically verified before republication.
The trial brought together the companies’ LWD, measurement-while-drilling, pressure, and telemetry technologies in one integrated bottom-hole assembly. The result demonstrated the availability of a proprietary technology stack for acquiring and transmitting formation evaluation data while drilling directional and horizontal wells.
