Wolverine Oilfield Technologies Completes Oklahoma Field Trial of 4¾-in RSS and Neutrino™ MWD
OKLAHOMA, United States — June 2020 —
Wolverine Oilfield Technologies completed a field run of its 4¾-in push-the-bit rotary steerable system (RSS) together with Neutrino™ ultra-high-speed measurement-while-drilling (MWD) telemetry and pressure-during-drilling sensors. The trial supported qualification of the pilot-series RSS design ahead of commercial field testing.
During the Oklahoma run, the RSS drilled 1,299 ft and built inclination from 12 to 50 degrees. The system maintained build rates of 5.5 to 6.5 degrees per 100 ft.
The RSS also received 7-bit downlinks without failure during the reported run. The Neutrino MWD system transmitted data at 2, 3, and 4 bits/s without signal loss during the trial.
Running the RSS, high-speed telemetry, and pressure sensors together demonstrated the compatibility of the technologies within one bottom-hole assembly. The results provided further field evidence for the system’s directional control and real-time data transmission capabilities.
At the time of the announcement, Wolverine planned to continue the commercialization program during 2020, with the objective of supporting complex well trajectories and more precise well placement.
