Wolverine Oilfield Technologies Completes First Field Run of Proprietary LWD/MWD Suite
HOUSTON, Texas — March 2020 —
Wolverine Oilfield Technologies completed the first field run of its proprietary logging-while-drilling and measurement-while-drilling technology suite, combining the Litho Neutron Density Caliper (LNDC) tool, Neutrino™ ultra-high-speed telemetry system, and QuantumDB logging analytics platform.
During the trial, the LNDC tool acquired apparent density, near- and far-detector photoelectric measurements, caliper imaging, and porosity and bulk-density data. The Neutrino telemetry system transmitted downhole data at rates ranging from 1.5 to approximately 4–5 bits/s, while the QuantumDB platform was used to process the acquired LWD/MWD data.
The field trial also included the loading and offloading of nuclear sources, confirming that the required handling procedures could be completed safely within the operating workflow.
Bringing the three technologies together in a single field trial represented an important step in the development of Wolverine’s proprietary formation-evaluation and telemetry portfolio. The combination of downhole measurements, high-speed data transmission, and surface processing was intended to support reservoir evaluation and well-placement decisions within an integrated LWD/MWD workflow.
At the time of the trial, Wolverine planned to continue commercialization of the new LWD/MWD suite during 2020.
